Ex-Chelsea midfielder calls on Liverpool owners: Sack Brendan Rodgers

Anfield Night

Former Chelsea, Derby and Celtic midfielder Craig Burley has called on Liverpool to replace Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool's 6-1 hammering away to Stoke City has sparked debate over the future of manager Brendan Rodgers.

The embarrassing scoreline has left Liverpool fans with much to stew on over the summer, but also their club management.

After the game Brendan Rodgers did not offer his resignation, but said, as reported by The Guardian, that if owners FSG wanted him to go, he would do just that.

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley believes the Reds should not hang around, using his Twitter page to express his view that it was time for the owners to get serious.

Burley is nowadays a pundit for ESPN, and is not afraid to be controversial, but in this instance it is not even that, which says how precarious Rodgers' position is.

His future is in the balance largely owing to the fact Jurgen Klopp is available, having left Borussia Dortmund despite turning around their horrific start to the season to guide them to seventh place.

Klopp is a title winning manager in Germany, and has led Dortmund to the Champions League final, but if he cannot be tempted, then the next best candidate is open to debate.
