Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen’s debut for Barcelona on Saturday evening.
Vermaelen made his debut for the newly-crowed Spanish champions against Deportivo La Coruna at Camp Nou in La Liga.
The Belgium international centre-back joined Barcelona from Arsenal in the summer of 2014, but he has endured an injury-plagued season.
Vermaelen started the encounter against Deportivo and played for 63 minutes, as Barcelona played out a 2-2 draw on the final day of the league campaign.
Benteke was following the game, and he was delighted to see his Belgium international teammate finally feature in a competitive match for Catalan giants Barcelona.
Vermaelen gave a decent account of himself against Deportivo, taking one short, having a pass accuracy of 93%, and making one interception, two clearances and one block.
Barcelona ended the 2014-15 La Liga campaign two points clear of second-place Real Madrid with 94 points from 38 matches.
