Arsene Wenger says he wants Theo Walcott to stay at Arsenal

The Arsenal boss has been reflecting on a fine performance from one of his players.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been speaking about Theo Walcott in comments published by the club’s official Twitter account.

The 26-year-old scored a first-half hat-trick in a 4-1 victory against West Bromwich Albion to make it emphatically clear that he is back to his best.

Walcott has missed much of the campaign due to injury, appearing only 20 times in all competitions and only 14 times in the Premier League. But with his injury woes seemingly behind him, the England international will now be looking to put in performances like this on a regular basis next season.

Speaking after his side’s emphatic win, Wenger said of Walcott, “He’s a good goal-scorer but he’s been out for a year. It takes time to rebuild your confidence.

“With or without his hat-trick, we want him to stay.”

That is a clear statement from the Arsenal boss regarding a player whose current deal has just over a year left to run.

The longer Walcott was out of the side, the more doubts would have crept in regarding his long-term future, but his latest performance would have done him the world of good and do not be surprised if Arsenal look to tie him down to a new contract this summer.
