The Argentine scored the second goal in the Magpies’ 2-0 victory over West Ham United at home in the Premier League.
After a goalless first half at St. James’ Park, France international midfielder Moussa Sissoko headed Newcastle in the lead in the 54th minute.
Then with just five minutes of normal time remaining, Gutierrez made it 2-0 for the home team.
The victory proved enough for Newcastle to retain their Premier League status for next season, leading Ant & Dec to send the 31-year-old the following message on Twitter:
Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer spoke highly of Gutierrez after the match and hailed his commitment to the club over the years.
“Jonas Gutierrez scoring at the end is a fantastic story,” the former England international told BBC Sport. “If there is one guy who really works his socks off it's Jonas, and he was doing it in my time at the club too.
“After all he has been through I know how much that goal will mean to him today. He has shown incredible commitment to the club.”
Gutierrez has been on the books of Newcastle since 2008, but he looks set to leave in the summer transfer window as his current contract with the Magpies runs out in June of this year.
