Report: Agent travels to London to discuss Eduardo Salvio switch; Tottenham interested

Could Tottenham Hotspur be about to add another wide player to their ranks?

According to the front page of today’s edition of A Bola, two Benfica players could be on their way to London clubs in the form of Nicolas Gaitan and Eduardo Salvio.

The Portuguese newspaper claims the Primeira Liga club’s president Luis Felipe Vieira and football agent Jorge Mendes have both flown to London in an attempt to sell the duo.

The report suggests that Tottenham have particular interest in Salvio, while Gaitan has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane in the past (as reported by the Independent among others).

There is no doubt Tottenham could do with additional wide players and Salvio is a 24-year-old right winger who fits the template for players Tottenham may be looking to sign this summer – young enough to have a good sell-on value but old enough to add something to their blossoming squad.

Salvio has enjoyed a fine campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists to date, while he also has five caps for Argentina.

As an upgrade on the likes of Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon, who would be a good investment, but it remains to be seen if Tottenham would be willing to offer whatever fee Benfica are seeking during their alleged mission to the English capital.
