Out-of-contract attacker considers Newcastle ‘home’, focused on West Ham clash

Newcastle Utd - Gate

Newcastle United will face West Ham United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.

Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi has told Sky Sports that he is focused only on the final game of the season, and not on his future.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the 23-year-old’s current contract with the Magpies runs out at the end of the season.

No new deal is in place, but Ameobi has insisted that he is determined to make sure that Newcastle do not go down to the Championship.

When asked by Sky Sports how he would feel on Sunday knowing that it could be his last game for the Magpies, the attacker said: “Whether it is or not, I am fully focused.

“This is my home, I support Newcastle. I am hoping we can put in a good performance and get the points we need to stay up.”

Newcastle fans will find Ameobi’s comments encouraging, as they need all the players to be focused on Sunday’s massive game against West Ham United at home.

John Carver’s side and Hull City are the two teams who are still in danger of getting relegated from the English top flight, with Queens Park Rangers and Burnley having already back gone down to the Championship.

Heading into Sunday’s final round of matches, Newcastle find themselves 17th in the standings with 36 points from 37 games.

The Magpies will face West Ham at St. James’ Park, while Hull - who are two points behind them - will take on Manchester United at the KC Stadium.

A win for Newcastle will guarantee them Premier League survival, but for a team who have lost nine of their last 10 league matches, picking up all three points will be tough.
