Lionel Messi full of praise for Barcelona hero Xavi

The Argentine has taken to Facebook to wish the veteran midfielder the best of luck for his move to Al Sadd.

Barcelona stalwart Xavi has announced this week that he will leave the Catalan club after spending his career as an integral member of the Camp Nou first-team.

Having graduated from the fabled La Masia youth academy, the retired Spain international has had a massively successful career for both club and country.

The heartbeat of Barcelona’s iconic tiki-taka footballing ethos under Pep Guardiola, Xavi has been a fans favourite and leader at the Catalan giants for over a decade.

With the veteran deep-lying playmaker set to depart his boyhood club this summer, Lionel Messi has taken to Facebook to express his gratitude to his team-mate and wish him the best of luck for his move.

Barcelona have the potential to send Xavi off with a momentous treble, with the Catalans wrapping up the La Liga title with a 1-0 win away to Atletico Madrid last weekend.

The club has finals against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey and Juventus in the Champions League still to play this term.

Xavi is set to feature in his final La Liga match for the Blaugrana this weekend against Deportivo La Coruna.
