Leeds United fans react on Twitter to Jermaine Beckford transfer reports

Jermaine Beckford

A look at how Leeds United fans reacted to news the club is tracking former player Jermaine Beckford.

After appointing new manager Uwe Rosler this week, talk at Leeds United is already gearing up around new signings.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Saturday evening that the Whites are among a group of club's considering a summer transfer for Jermaine Beckford. HITC's own sources had also reported this earlier in the day.

Beckford is available on a free transfer this summer with his contract at Bolton Wanderers running down, and is currently on loan at Preston North End.

The striker will play at Wembley for Preston in the League One play-off final on Sunday at 5.30pm, looking to cap a successful loan spell at the club with promotion.

Beckford enjoyed huge success at Leeds earlier in his career, helping them earn promotion from League One themselves before clinching his own move to Everton in the Premier League.

He is most fondly remembered for scoring a winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup.

Beckford struggled this season in the Championship with Bolton, but has recaptured his form with Preston, scoring 12 goals in 23 games.

If he helps Preston to a win at Wembley, then they will be lead contenders to secure his signature. They are managed by Simon Grayson, the manager he enjoyed success under at Leeds, who clearly knows how to get the best out of him.

The Leeds connection will not be one he can ignore however, and the striker's goalscoring ability is a level above Steve Morison, who was full of hard work last season, but took until April to score his first goal.

As his recent goal glut has come in League One, questions will be asked if he can still cut it in the Championship, but surely Leeds fans would rather find out the answer to that question with Beckford wearing their shirt rather than Preston's?
