Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge.
In the next 12 months, plenty of rumours are going to emerge regarding the future of Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with TuttoMercatoWeb suggesting this weekend that Chelsea could make a shock move for the Swedish forward.
Ibrahimovic is contracted until 2016 with the French club, and his wage demands would probably bring any move to an immediate halt. However, that doesn’t stop one indulging a little and looking at how exciting a move this would be for all parties, if at all possible.
Didier Drogba is set to leave the club this summer, leaving space in the attack for a veteran to provide cover for Diego Costa and Loic Remy. Ibrahimovic has shown this season that injuries and age are catching up with him, making it hard for the Swede to play for an entire campaign.
At Chelsea the pressure would be off, he would no longer need to be the main man, the talisman, the everything. He would be able to come off the bench, start some games, and go about showing everyone in England what they have been missing.
One problem at PSG has been Ibrahimovic’s ego. His presence will always be tough for a manager to overrule, but if one man can keep him in check, it’s Jose Mourinho. The two were together at Inter Milan and they do have respect for each other.
Perhaps Mourinho is the man to squeeze another couple of years out of one of the most talent players ever to play the game.
It’s true he is no longer at his peak, but it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to dazzle and delight an English audience. If PSG are interested in off-loading Zlatan this summer, and Chelsea could find a way to make it work, it is a move that would undoubtedly capture the imagination.
