Brad Friedel speaks about his 'inevitable' exit from Tottenham

The American goalkeeper has spoken prior to his Tottenham Hotspur departure.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has been speaking to the club’s official website ahead of his summer exit.

The 44-year-old is leaving White Hart Lane at the end of the season to start the next phase of his career as a pundit. And after 67 appearances for Tottenham and over 500 during his time in England he accepts the time is right to hang up his boots.

“I knew this day would come, it’s inevitable and I couldn’t be happier with how things have panned out,” Friedel said.

“I don’t think it’ll be an emotional moment in terms of sadness because I couldn’t have asked for more.”

With Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm on the books at Tottenham, Friedel has been very much third-choice this season and the time is certainly right for him to move on.

That said, he always did his best in a Tottenham shirt and the club’s fans are sure to wish him well as he sets out on the next stage of his illustrious career.

Others are likely to leave Spurs this summer, but few will leave with their head held as high as the former USA international who will go down as a true Premier League goalkeeping great.
