The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is being reportedly lined up as Xavi’s replacement at Camp Nou.
Arsenal have been steadily linked with a summer move for Ilkay Gundogan, with The Telegraph claiming that the Gunners want the Borussia Dortmund man to bolster their options in the heart of their midfield.
The Spanish newspaper have claimed that Gundogan travelled to Munich this week to meet with doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, who ran the rule over the playmaker’s fitness on the Catalan club’s behalf.
The report insinuates that the influential midfielder is potentially in line to join the newly crowned La Liga champions in January 2016 whenever the club’s transfer ban in lifted.
Xavi has announced his decision to leave his boyhood club this summer and move to Al Sadd and as such it makes sense that Luis Enrique’s outfit will be in the market for a replacement.
As such, if Arsenal want to land the talented German playmaker, they will need to move quick to beat competition from the Catalan powerhouses.
