Wigan have announced on their official website that the goalkeeper will join them in July when his current contract with Walsall runs out.
O’Donnell has agreed a three-year contract with the Latics, subject to medical, according to the statement.
The former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper is delighted to have had his future sorted.
Delighted to have agreed a deal to join @LaticsOfficial for next season. Can't wait to start and help get them back where they should be..— Richard O'Donnell (@RichODonnell23) May 22, 2015
O’Donnell was linked with a move to Championship outfit Forest in the summer transfer window.
The Walsall Advertiser reported earlier this week that the Reds were interested in the former Chesterfield man.
O’Donnell managed 21 clean sheets in 37 appearances for League One outfit Walsall this season.
Wigan will also play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship.
The Latics finished the 2014-15 campaign second from bottom in the league table with 39 points from 46 matches.
