Leeds United have been linked with appointing Francesco Marroccu as sporting director.
Leeds United are close to appointing Francesco Marroccu as sporting director, report Tuttomercatoweb.
Marroccu has been working at Cagliari, where he replaced none other than Nicola Salerno when he left the club to follow Massimo Cellino to Leeds United.
The report states: "Francesco Marroccu is about to become the new sporting director of Leeds United."
Marroccu worked under Cellino at Cagliari before that as general director, and was linked two years ago by the Italian press with a move to England with either Sunderland or Sheffield Wednesday.
Cellino's former club Cagliari have recently been relegated from Serie A and the report says the Italian side are already looking at replacements.
No formal announcement has been made with regard to Nicola Salerno departing Leeds, but he has not been seen at the club since he suspended former assistant coach Steve Thompson controversially in April, and Cellino has hinted in press conferences he is looking for a replacement.
Executive director Adam Pearson confirmed this week that appointments in key roles will come within the week after Uwe Rosler was confirmed as boss this week.
