Van Dijk is expected to leave Celtic this summer, with Newcastle, Southampton and Everton all interested.
Speaking to the Evening Times, van Dijk’s agent Pierre van Hooijdonk has confirmed that big clubs are preparing offers for the centre-back, having been impressed by his ability to play at the top level.
The former Bhoys striker said: “They will have assessed whether or not he is capable of playing at that level. I think he has shown that he can perform at the very top. He is on the radar of those top clubs now.
“If there are clubs who want to sign him then they will try to do it now. I can see why he would feel that he wants to go to another club and feel that he is being challenged every week.”
These are certainly worrying comments from the agent, with the 23-year-old defender cementing himself as one of the cornerstones of Celtic’s recent success.
Despite his youth he has put in incredible defensive performances on a consistent basis, and Celtic boss Ronny Deila would be keen to see van Dijk remain at Parkhead, as he is already set to lose Jason Denayer when his loan deal from Manchester City expires.
Everton and Southampton have been listed as the favourites to sign the defender now, as per the Daily Mail, although Newcastle and Sunderland have also been linked with making a move for him this summer, according to the Daily Star.
It certainly looks as if van Dijk will be leaving Scotland this summer, and whichever club wins the race for his signature will have signed a truly prodigious talent who has already proven himself with a wealth of experience.
This season, van Dijk has made 57 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and registering five assists, as the Hoops secured the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership titles.
