John Hartson has taken to social networking site Twitter to suggest that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger should play Jack Wilshere more centrally in midfield.
England international midfielder Wilshere played for 67 minutes in the goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium in North London, taking three shots, having a pass accuracy of 75%, creating three chances, attempting six dribbles and making three blocks.
Great to see Wilshere back but he has to play in the middle.Looks isolated playing wide he Will get lots more touches through the middle !— John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) May 20, 2015
If you decide to play Wilshere he is a player that needs to be constantly on the ball for you. Driving the team forward. Making it happen.— John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) May 20, 2015
While Hartson does have a point, the problem is that there is a fierce competition for places in Arsenal’s midfield.
Wilshere may be a talented player, but his injury problems over the past few years mean that he is not guaranteed a place in the starting line-up.
The match against Sunderland saw the 23-year-old make his first start since November, and there is simply no way that he could come in and slot into central midfield rightaway.
