West Ham fans react on Twitter to yet another Cresswell England omission

Aaron Cresswell

The West Ham full-back has once again been overlooked by the national side.

West Ham United fans were understandably displeased as yet another England squad not including Aaron Cresswell was announced on Thursday afternoon.

Roy Hodgson went with Ryan Bertrand and Kieran Gibbs in the left-back position, omitting Cresswell - who was the Hammers' player of the year this season.

Naturally, supporters were left unimpressed - and the Three Lions boss has once again been accused of holding a 'big-club bias' against the likes of West Ham.

Premier League (Per Game) GoalsAssistsAccurate CrossesChances CreatedWon TacklesInterceptionsClearancesHeadersMinutes Played
Danny Rose 3 4 19 27 70 60 75 32 2,372
Ryan Bertrand 2 2 29 26 33 67 47 52 2,965
Aaron Cresswell 2 4 24 34 30 31 144 52 3,330
Kieran Gibbs 0 3 13 15 30 47 63 30 1,567

As Opta stats show, Cresswell certainly has a strong case for an England call-up - especially ahead of Gibbs. It's also a similar story with Danny Rose, who Tottenham fans are frustrated wasn't included.

Going forward, West Ham's Cresswell has more assists than both Gibbs and Southampton's Bertrand. He is a better crosser than Gibbs and has created more chances than Rose, Bertrand or the Arsenal man.

The West Ham full-back doesn't rank too well in terms of tackles and interceptions but blitzes the opposition in the clearances department and also fares well in terms of headers per game.

And the biggest statistic of all - based on Hodgson's own promises about how he will select his England squads - Cresswell has played more minutes than any of the national side's left-backs. Twitter wasn't happy...
