The Norwegian defender had a reputation for a powerful strike during his time at Liverpool.
Former Liverpool hero John Arne Riise earned a reputation during his time at Anfield for a fairly powerful strike.
The Norwegian scored some sensational strikes during his time at the club, including a memorable effort against Manchester United. He was also well known for hitting a shot so hard it broke the ankle of Alan Smith in horrific manner.
He left Liverpool after seven years, 339 games and 30 goals in 2008. Since then he has played for the likes of Roma and Fulham but last summer decided to head to Cyprus for a bit of sun in the latter days of his career. Sun and silverware that is.
Last night his APOEL Nicosia side defeated AEL Limassol in the Cypriot Cup final. The won the game 4-2, former Arsenal youngster Georgios Efrem the hero, scoring twice.
But Riise was also on the scoresheet. He hit a trademark free-kick on the night as APOEL move in on a potential Cypriot league and cup double.
Riise has certainly picked his new club wisely and seems to be having a whale of a time in the Mediterranean.
