Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal legends have missed their fair share of penalties.
On this day in 2008, John Terry missed this penalty.
It cost Chelsea the Champions League, and saw the former England captain break down in tears.
Of course, the Blues would go on to lift the trophy in the following years, but to lose to Manchester United on penalties, as captain of Chelsea, must have been a horrible feeling.
Of course, as captain, he wanted to win the game for his team, but he should have left the decisive spot-kick to one of his more talented teammates. Whilst a brilliant defender, he has never been known for his penalty taking ability.
It was the slip just prior to taking it that left Terry skying the ball, hitting it into the right-hand post, despite sending Edwin van der Sar the diving the wrong way.
However, it is certainly not the worst penalty ever taken, and to commiserate - or celebrate, depending on your allegiance - with Terry, we take a look at five worst spot kicks than the central defender’s attempt on that rainy day in Moscow.
Gary Lineker - England
Robert Pires and Thierry Henry - Arsenal
David Beckham - England
Chris Waddle - England
Pat Nevin - Chelsea
