Sunderland players past and present were left rejoicing on social media site Twitter last night as the side confirmed their Premier League status for another season.
The Black Cats drew 0-0 with Arsenal on Wednesday evening, securing the point they needed at the Emirates to remain a top-flight outfit.
Sunderland are now four points clear of Hull City, who occupy the last spot in the bottom three, and they can finally relax.
That will be a relief considering that they have a tough test against champions Chelsea to come on the final day, and members of their current squad now have reason to celebrate.
Jordi Gomez and Anthony Réveillère both took to Twitter after the match in midweek to express their delight at having helped Sunderland to stay in the Premier League.
They were also congratulated by a number of former players. The likes of Steven Caldwell, Marcos Alonso and Simon Mignolet were all quick to praise the efforts of their former club, as they joined in with the celebrations.
Congrats to @SunderlandAFC on staying in the premier for another year. Well deserved for the boys and the fans— Marcos Alonso (@marcosalonso03) May 20, 2015
Sunderland will now be planning for the future, where they will be hoping to avoid a relegation fight in 2015/16.
