Sunderland fans react to Sebastian Coates's performance against Arsenal on Twitter

The defender, on loan from Liverpool, was impressive in Sunderland's draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Sunderland secured their status in the Premier League last night by getting the point they needed at the Emirates Stadium with a 0-0 draw against Arsenal.

It means the decision to bring Dick Advocaat to the club as Head Coach has been vindicated, as they travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday for the final game of the season in the knowledge that they will be visiting there and other top-flight venues next season.

It took a terrific defensive effort from Sunderland in order to get the result in north London which saw the players, staff and fans joyous at the final whistle. A lot of credit has rightly gone to goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, but Sebastian Coates was another player to impress greatly in the capital.

Coates is currently on loan from Liverpool, with this season marking a comeback from a serious knee injury he sustained during the last campaign. During his time on Merseyside he has looked pretty raw, even if the talent has been there to see.

It seems some consistent game time at Sunderland lately has done the Uruguayan the world of good, and his work in front of his goalkeeper in midweek did not go unnoticed on Twitter as he put in a calm and commanding performance to contribute to a precious point.

Here is a flavour of what Sunderland fans had to say on Twitter:
