The Derby Telegraph has reported that Steve McClaren will hold talks with the club’s chief executive Sam Rush today over his position at the club.
McClaren has reiterated his commitment to the cause at the club, following speculation reported by the Northern Echo and other sources that the ex-England boss is a target for Newcastle United.
The Derby Telegraph suggests that Real Madrid’s current assistant Paul Clement is someone the club would target if the talks reach the conclusion that McClaren is not the man who should be taking Derby forward.
However, it may also be the case that the talks are designed to look at the best way forward for the club with McClaren in charge, with Derby needing to get on top of a number of things before a long and important summer for the club.
McClaren will definitely feel as though he’s got a point to prove because last season saw progress decline from the campaign where the Rams narrowly missed out on promotion with a play-off final defeat at the hands of London based Queens Park Rangers.
