According to German TV channel Sport1, Borussia Monchengladbach have joined Newcastle in the race to sign Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Gladbach were recently dealt a blow after Wolfsburg confirmed the signing of striker Max Kruse on their official website, with the German international leaving Gladbach for their Bundesliga rivals this summer.
That means Lucien Favre will be looking to bring in a new centre forward this summer, and it appears that they will target Anderlecht star Mitrovic.
The 20-year-old striker hit 18 goals in 42 games to earn a move to Anderlecht in 2013, and the Serbian international has shown no signs of stopping his goalscoring prowess, smashing 42 goals in 88 games for the Belgian side - and earning plenty of admirers in the process.
The burly striker is an excellent target man, and hit the headlines back in November having scored a last gasp equaliser in Anderlecht's 3-3 Champions League draw with Arsenal.
Mitrovic is likely to be in demand this summer, with recent reports from the Daily Mail suggesting that Newcastle would submit a £15m bid to land him at the end of the season.
Yet with the Magpies entering Sunday's game against West Ham United with the threat of relegation still hanging above them, they could miss out on targets ahead of the summer transfer window - and Mitrovic may be one of them if Gladbach can land him.
