With AS Roma’s place in next season’s Champions League all-but assured, Rudi Garcia is already actively preparing for the upcoming summer transfer window. On Wednesday, the paper edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport reported that he is interested in four French players, including Liverpool and Arsenal-linked – per the Daily Star - defender Lucas Digne from Paris Saint-Germain.
Digne’s time on the pitch has been limited in Paris this season, and both the Anfield club and Roma are said to be interested in rescuing the left-back this summer.
Liverpool were also linked before he moved to the French capital, but with Garcia he would be reuniting with the coach that helped him to breakthrough at Lille.
Digne is reportedly on a Roma wish list of four - with Steve Mandanda of Marseille, Lille’s Rio Mavuba and Digne’s current teammate Yohan Cabaye. Mandanda is the only one who didn’t play under Garcia at Lille, and all three are looking at reuniting with the French coach.
This season, Digne has only featured 14 times in Ligue 1 for PSG, with former Inter Milan left-back Maxwell enjoying a fantastic season. The Brazilian is only contracted until the end of next season, but another 12 months on the bench would be disastrous for the young full-back as he looks to earn a place in France’s squad for the 2016 European Championships.
At this stage, it is unclear whether or not the left-back would leave on a permanent deal, or whether a loan move would suit all parties. However, if Digne is available this summer, this is a move that Brendan Rodgers should pay close attention to.
Digne has all the qualities required to become a wonderful defender and if PSG are looking to move the 21-year-old on; he could be available for a great deal.
