Managing at the Bernabeu would fulfil a lifelong ambition for Rafa Benitez.
The majority of Liverpool fans have the fondest of memories, when it comes to talking about Rafa Benitez and what he achieved whilst at Anfield. The same can be said for the Spaniard, who still cherishes his time there and has hinted at a possible return in the future.
However, all that will have to wait, given the recent reports suggesting that Benitez is just "one step away" from replacing Ancelotti at Real Madrid. An opportunity he would find impossible to resist.
Amidst the frenzy of media speculation surrounding the revolving managerial door at the Bernabeu, speaking with Spanish media via Marca, Garcia Quilon, the agent of the 55-year-old coach, has offered the first response from the Benitez camp, regarding latest developments.
"So far there's been nothing. There's just a general rumour." He clarified, but at the same time, pointed out: "Rafa has been a Real player, and he even managed Real Madrid B in his early years, so he certainly has no enemies within the club."
Importantly and when pressed if Benitez will depart Napoli for Los Blancos, Quilon acknowledged: "I imagine that he would love to manage Real Madrid at some point in the future."
That point could be very close indeed, given suggestions that Ancelotti could be told of his departure this Sunday, amidst the speculation amongst the Spanish media, that Benitez will hold talks with Florentino Perez next week.
Benitez certainly has the credentials, both in terms of domestic and continental silverware he's won. Particular highlights of course, are his hugely successful spells with Valencia and Liverpool, whilst at Inter Milan, Chelsea and Napoli, he has added further trophy wins to his impressive CV.
