Liverpool media round-up: Sterling approach rejected, update on two forwards linked with move

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.

Liverpool have rejected an audacious inquiry from Manchester United for winger Raheem Sterling according to the Liverpool Echo.

This comes after the 20-year-old has reportedly told officials at Anfield that he will not be signing a new contract and will seek a move away in the summer - but the Reds are adamant that he is not for sale.

The Echo reports that Liverpool don't want to lose the player, especially not to a Premier League rival, and say the move from United could start a bidding war for the player, with Manchester City among those also said to be interested.

Any hope Liverpool have of trying to land Christian Benteke could be scuppered by Chelsea, according to the Daily Mirror, as Jose Mourinho is said to be considering a move for the Aston Villa striker.

The report says that Anfield is the Belgian's likely destination for £30 million, though Tim Sherwood is reluctant to sell him.

Another forward who has been linked with a move to Merseyside is Barcelona's Pedro - who is being offered to Premier League clubs for £7 million, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Spaniard has just the one year remaining on his contract at the Nou Camp, with the newspaper suggesting Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could all be in the race for the 27-year-old, along with Serie A outfit Inter Milan.
