Guillem Balague praises Manchester United linked Nicolas Otamendi

Guillem Balague speaks highly of Nicolas Otamendi.

Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague has picked reported Manchester United signing Nicolas Otamendi as one fot he top two centre-backs in Spain this season.

Argentine newspaper Ole report that Otamendi has agreed a four-year deal to move to the Red Devils after the Copa America.

A release clause of €50 million exists in his Valencia contract, making United's task to bring in the defender more straightforward.

Speaking to SkySports, Balague chose Otamendi in his La Liga XI, picking him alongside Barcelona's ex-Manchester United centre-back Gerard Pique in defence.

He said: "Valencia’s improvement and challenge for Champions League qualification is due in no small part to the efforts of this excellent central defender, who in addition to great defence has a habit of weighing in with important goals, namely the winner to ended Real Madrid’s 22-match unbeaten run."

United are in need of a top centre-back this summer, and as reported by The Guardian this week, Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels has decided against a move and wants to stay put.

Valencia naturally want to keep Otamendi but face a very realistic prospect of seeing him move on if reports in his homeland are accurate.

He has helped the club into the fourth place and Champions League qualifying spot this season, but they face a crucial weekend with just a one point advantage over Sevilla, and face an away trip to Almeria on the final day.
