Marius Zaliukas confounded his doubters by delivering a composed performance for Rangers in their play-off victory against Hibernian.
Rangers won the game at Ibrox 2-0, the first leg of a play-off semi-final, with the return game being held on Saturday.
Centre-back Zaliukas has had a shaky season at Rangers, but the Lithuanian was unruffled as Hibs piled on the pressure but failed to really trouble the home side.
Hibs were restricted to only one shot on target from eight attempts, as opposed to five on target from Rangers, despite the away side having 13 corners.
31-year-old Zaliukas has a contract at Rangers until 2016 and showed that next season he can play a useful role even if they manage to win promotion. It was the 25th game he has played this season, coming back into favour under Stuart McCall.
Another strong performance will be needed at the weekend, with manager McCall driving that notion home speaking after the game to the BBC.
He said: "Them lads in the dressing room have performed and stood up, and nobody can point a finger at them.
"Give them credit where it's due. That's two clean sheets we've had against Hibs back-to-back and we know we'll need to defend really well on Saturday."
Rangers fans reacted positively to Zaliukas' performance via social media, with some claiming it was the best they had seen him play for the club.
Never thought I'd be saying this but Zaliukas was absolutely faultless tonight, best defensive performance I've seen from us in a long time— Craig (@herematenaw) May 20, 2015
Happy zaliukas is finally getting a good run in the team after previous managers somehow missing the commanding centre back we had all along— Josh (@JoshGray2012) May 20, 2015
Big Zaliukas though, what a performance.— Jordan (@armjord) May 20, 2015
I've given him abuse on here in past, but in these three play off matches, Marius Zaliukas has been immense.— One Davie Cooper (@graeme_m_scott) May 20, 2015
Jason Cummings is gonna come crawling outta Zaliukas' washing machine! In his pocket all night!— Lee Wyatt (@MrLeeWyatt) May 20, 2015
Zaliukas had a cigar on for that. And his last decent performance was 3 years and a day ago.— Reassuringly Average (@MONeil1974) May 20, 2015
King Zaliukas strolled it tonight— cammy begbie (@CameronBegbie) May 20, 2015
Ive hammered Zaliukas and Foster almost every time they've played but credit where its due, superb tonight. Also Andy Murdoch, star man!— Dean (@deanomac54) May 20, 2015
