Finally! Rangers fans react on Twitter to Marius Zaliukas performance v Hibs

Former Leeds defender Marius Zaliukas was one of Rangers' heroes in their promotion play-off.

Marius Zaliukas confounded his doubters by delivering a composed performance for Rangers in their play-off victory against Hibernian.

Rangers won the game at Ibrox 2-0, the first leg of a play-off semi-final, with the return game being held on Saturday.

Centre-back Zaliukas has had a shaky season at Rangers, but the Lithuanian was unruffled as Hibs piled on the pressure but failed to really trouble the home side.

Hibs were restricted to only one shot on target from eight attempts, as opposed to five on target from Rangers, despite the away side having 13 corners.

31-year-old Zaliukas has a contract at Rangers until 2016 and showed that next season he can play a useful role even if they manage to win promotion. It was the 25th game he has played this season, coming back into favour under Stuart McCall.

Another strong performance will be needed at the weekend, with manager McCall driving that notion home speaking after the game to the BBC.

He said: "Them lads in the dressing room have performed and stood up, and nobody can point a finger at them.

"Give them credit where it's due. That's two clean sheets we've had against Hibs back-to-back and we know we'll need to defend really well on Saturday."

Rangers fans reacted positively to Zaliukas' performance via social media, with some claiming it was the best they had seen him play for the club.
