HITC Sport understands Portsmouth are closing in on the signing of Chesterfield midfielder Jimmy Ryan on a free transfer.
HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Portsmouth are confident of signing Chesterfield midfielder Jimmy Ryan.
New Portsmouth boss Paul Cook is ready to return to his old club to bring Ryan with him to Fratton Park, as he looks to rebuild the current Pompey side.
Cook is a huge fan of Ryan, having signed him during his time in charge of Chesterfield, and he sees the former Liverpool youngster as a key part of his plans for the south coast club.
Ryan has enjoyed two successful seasons at Chesterfield since joining from Scunthorpe in 2013, helping the club to win the League Two title and then reach the League One play-offs this term.
The 26-year-old turned down a new deal at Chesterfield in January and although new Spireites manager Dean Saunders has expressed his desire to retain the services of the midfielder, it seems he is set to move on.
Ryan could be one of several Chesterfield players joining Cook at Portsmouth, with Gary Roberts and Sam Morsy also believed to be on the manger's wanted list.
