Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has had a newsworthy last 24 hours for a player who has not started a game for months.
Adebayor has recently made public a history of family rows, and was granted leave earlier in the season in similar circumstances.
He has had a wasted season, struggling and scoring just two Premier League goals. It is in contrast to a year ago when he netted 11 goals in the league, mostly under the management of Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood is the current Aston Villa boss, and he has continued to show excellent man management skills, turning around the form of Christian Benteke, and helping the club reach the FA Cup Final.
His previous success with Adebayor makes him, for the striker at least, a coach he would want to play under again, but how badly Villa want him is uncertain, with The Mail's report stating he is a back-up if they sell star man Benteke.
Adebayor would likely have to take a cut on his £100,000 per week wages to join Villa, while The Telegraph suggest that his ongoing personal issues make him a risky signing and could put off clubs.
It may be a factor in Aston Villa fans being cold on the idea of signing him, but there are other reasons too, with the striker's expense another.
The reaction to his potential signing on Twitter has not been positive, here is a look at what supporters have had to say...
