One of Tottenham Hotspur's brightest young prospects should remain where he is for the long haul despite recent rumours to the contrary.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester City, according to claims from Le Buteur as relayed by TWM. But there is a very simple reason why the Algerian international should not even consider a move away at this point in his career.
Tottenham have given the young midfielder a chance and he has seized it, but heading to a club like City would be his undoing before he has truly got going.
At just 20, Bentaleb has years ahead of him to develop his game and become the top class defensive midfielder many feel he has the talent to be.
His current club are not afraid to give youth a chance and the Algeria international has become a regular first-choice starter with 54 senior appearances to date.
With a contract that runs until the summer of 2018 there is no real urgency for Tottenham to tie him to a new one, regardless of the claims that an impasse in negotiations could lead to City making their move.
Young players such as Bentaleb should simply get their heads down and keep working hard and Tottenham is the perfect club for him if he wants to continue his development.
There has been an overreliance on him this season and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino will surely be looking to bring in an experienced player to ease the burden n Bentaleb and simultaneously aid his progress. But this is a player who is benefiting from playing for a side that can continue to grow together and – in a few years’ time – potentially be among the best in the country.
