Mounier, a 27-year-old winger, arrived at Montpellier in 2012, and has since made 108 appearances for the club, including turning out in the Champions League in the 2012/13 season.
This term has been an impressive one for the former French youth international, having registered nine goals and eight assists in 36 games as Montpellier sit safely in the top half of the table.
Able to play on both the right and left wing, Mounier is also to play in a more central attacking midfield role, and that would seem to be of interest to the Hornets.
The Hertfordshire club rarely play a system utilising attacking wingers, with either wing-backs played in a 3-5-2, or a diamond midfield played in a 4-4-2. This means that Mounier’s wing talents will likely be wasted at Vicarage Road, unless he is converted into a defensive winger, or is played in the number 10 position at the top of the diamond.
There are no indications as to a price asked for by Montpellier should Watford submit a formal approach, but the report claims he has just one year left on his contract, meaning that any deal is likely to be for a cut price fee.
