Reports in Le10Sport claim that Christophe Galtier is ready to announce his future as early as next week and is tipped heavily to extend his stay with the Ligue 1 side.
Galtier has guided Saint-Etienne to a Europa League place, sitting fifth in the Ligue 1 table, behind the likes of PSG, Monaco, Lyon and Marseille, seemingly grabbing the attention of Newcastle's directors.
Linked with a summer exit from the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Galtier has previously discussed his future, claiming that he was not in talks over a new deal at the club.
Whilst, Newcastle themselves denied such talks, saying that reported interest in both Galtier and former Lyon boss Remi Garde was false, according to the Chronicle.
However, conflicting reports now claim that despite interest from Newcastle and Marseille, the 48-year-old is set to extend his deal and remain in France.
The next seven days are now set to be decisive in terms of his future, but unless officials from St James Park act fast, they could miss out on a potential replacement for John Carver.
Carver has been under increasing pressure this season and is facing a final-day relegation battle with the likes of Hull City and rivals Sunderland.
