Report: Clement re-linked with Derby role but two things need to happen

Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement has once again been linked with a move to Derby County.

The Derby Telegraph has reported that Paul Clement remains linked with the top job at the club ahead of next season.

Clement is reportedly one of the main targets for Derby, should current manager Steve McClaren move on and take another job.

Clement, currently assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, is likely to move on if the Italian loses his job at the Bernabeu.

However, it would take a drastic turn of events at Derby for him to become their manager because the paper’s report claims that McClaren remains committed to Derby.

McClaren will definitely have a feeling of unfinished business in relation to the Rams after missing out on promotion in the play-off final two seasons ago and missing out on the top six altogether in the latest campaign.

He may get one more crack at promotion into the Premier League before the Rams look to make a change, with the risk that by that time Clement could have moved on whether he’s going it alone elsewhere or backing up Ancelotti at another club such as Manchester City.
