Pulis: I will never be concerned by things at Aston Villa

Tony Pulis Interview - 23/02/2014

West Brom boss Tony Pulis has refused to be drawn on comparing his club's situation with Aston Villa.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis told the Birmingham Mail that he will never allow himself to be distracted by anything going on at Aston Villa.

Pulis reacted angrily when he was asked about the importance of finishing above Villa in the table, suggesting that West Brom’s local rivals are insignificant to what he’s trying to build and achieve with the Baggies.

“It is not about Villa it is about West Bromwich Albion. Whatever Aston Villa do, Aston Villa do. That’s their job, that’s Tim’s (Sherwood) job,” he said.

“I will never be concerned by what they do over there. My focus is on this football club. It is a great football club.”

Villa have secured their safety and if they win with a West Brom loss, the difference between the teams in the table will be three points.

Villa will then go about their business over the summer to try and close that gap as well as pushing for the top half of the table.

Villa had the better of the recent exchanges between the two local rivals and Sherwood will want that to continue.

He’s made no secret of the fact that he genuinely believes that Villa are one of the biggest clubs in England but the league table doesn’t lie and West Brom has been more consistent over a long period of time.

Pulis may not be willing to address the difference between the teams directly, but he’ll definitely be having a smile to himself in private.
