The Spanish youngster already has two highly consistent La Liga seasons under his belt.
After legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard bade the Anfield crowd an emotional farewell last weekend, focus for Liverpool now turns to the future and making important reinforcements to the side.
Amidst what is expected to be a busy summer of activity, one potential Reds target has already emerged in Spain. A player who they really shouldn't let slip through their grasp.
That player is 21-year-old central midfielder, Sergi Darder, who has continued to make exceptional progress with Malaga this season. His second campaign as an integral part of the first-team squad.
Considered to be a talent for whom a full international cap for Spain, is just around the corner, Darder is primarily a holding midfielder. In that role, he performs highly efficiently and with the utmost consistency.
Darder doesn't get many opportunities to score, but when he does, they're usually screamers from outside the box. However, he is very important in link up play, with his marauding forward runs, opening up opportunities for others around him.
Strong in the tackle, his ability to turn around possession by winning back the ball, is also a key attribute, whilst he is also very alert when marking opponents and closing down spaces.
During the week, reports from Diario SUR, highlighted that the talented player is attracting strong interest from two Italian sides and one English club. They were subsequently named as Roma, Inter Milan and Liverpool.
Perhaps what is most important, the respected Costa del Sol newspaper also indicated that there is a willingness by Malaga to sell, given they need to continue balancing the books, needing to raise around €20 million this summer.
As such, Darder has been highlighted as one of several players, who Malaga will be willing to sell, despite extending his contract to June 2018, just last November.
This move was to improve the salary terms of the player, although his clause valuation remained a whopping €40 million. That said, Malaga will be prepared to accept a much lower figure.
Last summer, Portuguese giants FC Porto saw an offer of €10 million rejected for Darder, given Malaga had no intentions of selling him at that time.
Given the situation has now changed, Liverpool could prise this excellent talent away from Los Boquerones, for around €15 million, with some careful negotiation. For that price, Darder would be worth every penny. He would be a purchase they wouldn't regret making.
