Former Manchester United and Cardiff City team-mate backs Ravel Morrison to shine in Italy

Federico Macheda believes the former West Ham bad boy has it in him to be a hit in Rome.

Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda has been speaking this week about former West Ham problem player Ravel Morrison - who is on his way to Lazio in the summer.

The Italian striker, who was a youth team player at Lazio before joining Manchester United in 2007, has been a team-mate of Ravel's at both Manchester United and during a brief loan spell for the midfielder at Cardiff City, has spoken highly of the 22-year old former West Ham starlet.

He is quoted by Tutto Mercato Web as stating:

"He came on loan to Cardiff. And the Championship in England is similar to Italian football. It 's very technical, he is certainly a player like [former AC Milan midfielder, Gennaro] Gattuso. If you find him on the right day he can hurt anyone.

"He has had some problems off the field that did not allow him to explode, he was right to leave England."

Morrison is undoubtedly a fantastic natural talent - something he proved during his time on loan at Queens Park Rangers in 2014.

But he was often in the news for the wrong reasons, with off the field problems often casting a shadow over his development.

With that in mind West Ham released him in February, and he signed a deal with Lazio. He will become an official Lazio player in the summer.

It is, as Macheda states, a good move for the player. He can now get on with his football away from the glare of the English press and hopefully iron out any of his previous issues whilst in Italy.

Lazio fans will be hoping he can become something of a hero for the club in the years to come.
