Why Morgan Schneiderlin should be Tottenham's number one target this summer

Taking a closer look at the one player Tottenham Hotspur should attempt to sign above any other.

The summer transfer window may not have opened but that has not stopped the speculation coming thick and fast, with Tottenham Hotspur one of the clubs linked with numerous players already.

There is no doubt Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino needs to strengthen his side if he wishes to challenge for a top-four spot and silverware next season, but there is one player he must focus on above all others.

While plenty of wingers, a lorry-load of centre-backs and more than a few strikers have all been tipped to make White Hart Lane their new home next season, the simple fact is Tottenham must strengthen the centre of their midfield. And there is no better option than Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

Tottenham need a central midfielder with experience, talent and preferably knowledge of the Premier League.

In the Saints star they would get the full package, and if the latest reports are true – with Goal.com claiming it will take an offer of £25million to sign the Frenchman – Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy should already be writing the cheque.

The 25-year-old is perfect for Spurs and he would immediately transform the centre of their team, offering more stability in front of a defence that has the talent but not the protection and ensuring the pressure is eased on the likes of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason.

He would also offer a goal-threat from the centre of the park and his very presence would help all those around him do what they do best while he quietly does what only the best in the game can manage.

Schneiderlin has to be Tottenham’s number one target this summer; after all, there are few players who can transform a side as much as a supremely gifted defensive midfielder and his arrival could be the catalyst to see this promising young team truly blossom.
