The Spain and Real Madrid captain has reportedly been told to remain at the Bernabeu.
Casillas has had to endure plenty of criticism this season with Los Blancos, both from the Spanish media and from the Bernabeu crowd, with sections of fans singling him out for particular blame, as Real Madrid have failed to achieve their expectations.
Such criticism has lead to strong speculation that Casillas is considering his exit, albeit conscious that such a decision, would weigh heavily on the heart of the goalkeeping star, who celebrates his 34th birthday on Wednesday 20th May.
On Monday night, close friend and former Real Madrid legend, Michel, weighed into the debate by suggesting to Cadena SER radio that Casillas might be playing his final game at the Bernabeu, against Getafe at the weekend in the ultimate La Liga encounter of the season.
However, according to Spanish sports daily AS, who point towards a meeting between Casillas and club president, Florentino Perez, as having been held on Tuesday.
During that meeting, it is believed, Real Madrid gave assurances to Casillas that he remains a central part of their plans, at least for next season, insisting that he remain at the club.
AS also indicated that even if Casillas remains, this will in no way impede any move by Real Madrid, for Manchester United star David De Gea, suggesting that the two Spain internationals will form part of the same team next season.
Despite the comments from Michel, it is also suggested that the primary option for Casillas, is to see out the remaining two years of his contract, which will earn the player €7.5 million. A figure which might be difficult to match elsewhere.
Meanwhile and aside from all the speculation, Casillas tweeted the following important message to fans of Real Madrid, showing a training session at the Bernabeu, via his official account.
"Empty and without you, it's not the same. On Saturday we say goodbye to the season at home, and we're waiting for you. Hala Madrid!"
