Phil Neville has told BBC Sport that Angel di Maria would turn on the style for Manchester United next season.
Di Maria has been largely a disappointment for the Red Devils this season following his move from Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2014.
The Argentina international winger has scored three goals and created 51 chances in 26 Premier League appearances, while having a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 46%.
Former United star Neville has backed the 27-year-old to make an impact for Louis van Gaal’s side in the 2015-16 campaign.
“Angel di Maria arrived for a British record fee last summer but, considering his £59.7m price-tag and his reputation, he has not delivered since his first three or four games,” the 38-year-old told BBC Sport.
“Even so, he is still the United player who excites me the most. Everything about the way he plays from his pace, his skill, and his ability running or passing forwards tells me he has what it takes to shine at Old Trafford.
“He has just not done it yet. Next season could be the time when he realises what it takes.”
Di Maria is a world-class player who can play as a winger and an attacking midfielder.
True, the Argentine has been poor this season, but class is permanent - and Di Maria is a class player.
If the former Benfica star has a good pre-season with United and remains fit, then he will certainly be a force to be reckoned with next campaign.
During his time at Madrid, Di Maria showed what he can do. As Neville says, he has not taken the Premier League by storm yet, but he is certainly capable of doing so.
