Jamie Carragher gives his damning verdict on Newcastle United

Newcastle United need to beat West Ham United in their final fixture of the season to feel assured of their Premier League status.

Jamie Carragher is quoted by the Chronicle as saying that Newcastle United are the worst team in the Premier League.

The Magpies have failed to win any of their last 10 matches, and Carragher has offered a damning verdict on the North East outfit.

He says that John Carver's men have shown less quality than any of their top-flight rivals in recent times, and he now fears for their safety.

“We always look at a team and think ‘They’ve got a good set of fixtures’ but given how poorly Newcastle are playing I don’t think any game is a good one for them at the moment," he said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football. "At this moment, on current form, they are the worst team in the league."

Carragher's scathing analysis of Newcastle did not stop there, with the former Liverpool defender saying that he thought West Ham United would beat them on the final day.

The Hammers have been in poor form themselves, but Carragher believes they will be victorious at St. James' Park on the closing day of the campaign, even if they have little left to play for.

“I can’t see Newcastle winning that game. Big Sam (Allardyce) is going back there, he’s big pals with Steve Bruce [Hull City], he’ll want to do him a favour, he’s going back to Newcastle, he was sacked there. I don’t see Newcastle winning that game."

If Carragher's prediction is correct and Newcastle do not beat West Ham, then they will be in huge danger of going down.

The Magpies have to beat the Hammers to confirm their Premier League status, otherwise a Hull City win against Manchester United at the KC Stadium will drop them into the bottom three and down into the Championship.
