The Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper was happy with the contribution of two sections of the side in particular at the weekend.
Spurs won courtesy of goals from Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose but Lloris reserved special praise for his defence and the club’s central midfielders.
Too many times this season, Tottenham have looked weak defensively while questions have been asked of their midfield duo Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb.
As a result, it would be no surprise if Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino moved to strengthen both areas this summer. But Lloris’s latest comments give some much needed praise to two oft-criticised areas of Spurs’ team.
“We were strong defensively and in the middle of the park,” Lloris said, “and there were times when we needed more concentration and precision in front of goal.”
For all Mason and Bentaleb’s development this season there is no question that Tottenham need an experienced central midfielder to play week in, week out; while Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen have both been criticised in the past.
But for once it was the club’s attacking players that could have done better, and that could bode well for those players further back in the pitch who – in some cases – will know they could be playing for their Spurs’ futures.
