Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has told the Northern Echo that he feels the club have two advantages heading into the final game of the season.
Newcastle have to get the better of West Ham this weekend to secure their place in the Premier League for next season and the Argentine feels the club have two things, which could work in their favour.
“The good thing is that we play at home and it's in our hands. A few players here know what it's like to go down, and it's not nice for the city, the players and the club. We need to move forward to the next game, and do it for the fans and the city,” he said.
It’s important the club plays well and puts on a good performance because the fans could turn if the realisation of playing in the Championship starts to kick in.
Newcastle fans are passionate and loyal and they will get behind the team, but the players must respond and give the fans some encouragement.
On the feeling within the squad, those players who have experienced relegation need to relay what that feeling is like to try and inspire the squad to ensure that no one has to go through those feelings again.
Those players need to keep everyone switched on and focused on moving forward to give everything in this game.
If Newcastle pull it off, the club have to make sure over the summer that they get themselves into a position where this season never repeats itself.
