Fulham winning the race for Portsmouth's Jed Wallace

HITC Sport understands Fulham are leading the race to sign in-demand Portsmouth midfielder Jed Wallace.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Fulham are confident of winning the race to sign Portsmouth’s highly-rated midfielder Jed Wallace.

Wallace is one of the hottest prospects in the lower leagues and has finished as Portsmouth's top scorer in the last two seasons – netting 17 times in all competitions this term.

League Two outfit Portsmouth are resigned to losing Wallace this summer, with the player keen to try his luck higher up the football pyramid.

Portsmouth chairman Iain McInnes has admitted to The News that he expects Wallace to move on this summer.

"In my opinion, I think Jed probably in his mind feels the right thing to do is move on – and I am saying that without having a direct conversation with him," said McInnes.

“There has been no announcement privately or otherwise from Jed in the meantime, but I think it is more than likely Jed will probably be playing for somebody else next season.”

Wolverhampton Wanderers have held a long-standing interest in Wallace and it is understood that they have tabled a bid for the 21-year-old.

However, WolvesChampionship rivals Fulham are thought to be in pole position to land Wallace as Kit Symons looks to reshape the squad at Craven Cottage after a disappointing season in 2014/15.
