A former Liverpool player has been commenting on a current Reds star.
According to a report from the BBC, the England international will tell Reds manager Brendan Rodgers that he wishes to leave the club this summer; this after he previously rejected a new £100,000-a-week contract.
Now Riise – who made 234 appearances for Liverpool from 2001 to 2008 – has had his say on social media, and he clearly does not agree with the way Sterling has gone about things.
“Sterling doing it all wrong,” the left-back wrote. “Should have just kept quiet and worked hard for himself, the club and the fans.”
That message is likely to go down well with the Anfield faithful, and it is also telling that different players have different ways of dealing with their contract situations.
Sterling’s current deal runs until the summer of 2017, so in essence Liverpool need not sell him regardless of his alleged wish to leave. However, the club will know that his value will decrease the closer he gets to the end of his contract and they will not want an unhappy player on their books.
Still, there is time for Sterling to get his head down and work hard for the club at which he has blossomed. Whatever happens, it will make for an interesting summer.
