Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy revealed on talkSPORT that it wouldn’t surprise him if Manchester United decided to target his old side in the transfer market.
United will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper if they are forced to sell David De Gea to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Murphy feels they will go after Tottenham’s number one Hugo Lloris as a result.
“The big question is who is going to come in at United? It wouldn’t surprise me if they want to go for Tottenham’s number one Lloris. I think he’s as good as there is in the Premier League,” he said.
“Everything that I’ve read is that he wants to play Champions League – It really wouldn’t surprise me with Tottenham selling to United in the past with Berbatov and Carrick.”
Lloris has proven to be a very consistent goalkeeper in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons and he is a very realistic option for the Old Trafford club.
It would be a bitter pill to swallow for a lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans but what they can be sure of is that chairman Daniel Levy would get the best possible deal if the club had no option but to enter talks over a move.
Spurs are under immense pressure to get into the Champions League, because it’s something which will always be hanging over the head of the club and creating the possibility that they could lose their best players.
It’s looking increasingly likely that De Gea will be tempted back to Spain in a deal, which could involve Gareth Bale heading the other way, which would be a bitter pill for Tottenham fans to swallow, especially if Lloris also heads to Old Trafford.
