Crystal Palace's Yannick Bolasie is relishing the chance to live up to his £40 million price tag

Selhurst Park - Crystal Palace - 23/02/2014

Alan Pardew slapped a £40 million price on Yannick Bolasie’s head and he is determined to live up to such a hefty figure.

Crystal Palace have been steered away from any sort of relegation trouble by Alan Pardew, who moved to the club from Newcastle United mid-season.

While Newcastle go into the final game of the season in danger of dropping into the Championship, Palace sit in mid-table with a good chance of finishing in the top half for the first time since the inception of the Premier League.

The Eagles will compete for the third consecutive time in the top flight next season and have their ambitious attacking approach to thank.

They possess an abundance of pace in wide areas of the pitch, assets which have been utilised superbly by Pardew since his arrival.

The likes of Jason Puncheon and Wilfried Zaha have flourished after being given freedom to express themselves but it is Yannick Bolasie who has stolen the majority of the headlines.

Bolasie, who scored a hat-trick against Sunderland earlier in the season, has been given a huge £40 million valuation by his manager, per Sky Sports.

Whilst that may be a huge exaggeration and there is no way that anyone is likely to be willing to pay that amount for a player who is only proven in the bottom half of the Premier League, there is no doubt that Bolasie has thrilled fans and neutrals alike this season.

The winger is relishing the opportunity to prove that he is worth such high numbers. He told BBC Radio Five Live when asked about the figure, “The only app on my phone is Instagram. I don’t have a Twitter app so I don’t know anything that is going on. I only go on my computer when games are on and that’s about it.

“The way I reacted to it [being valued at £40million], I find it funny but at the same time, I look at it as I need to work harder. If I score more goals and make more goals then why not? I have got the strength and the skills.”

Bolasie is obviously a very level-headed player who believes in his own ability and is not fazed by this sort of pressure being put on his shoulders, which will serve him well in his quest to become a £40 million player.
