Ander Herrera believes Manchester United will fight for trophies next season

Manchester United have begun their re-building this season under Louis van Gaal and midfielder Ander Herrera thinks there is more to come next year.

When Louis van Gaal came to Manchester United, he made it clear that the aim in his first season in charge was to return the club to the Champions League at the first time of asking.

Despite there being blips along the way, he has achieved that aim, but there is a long way to go. A club of United’s stature cannot rest on their laurels by celebrating a fourth place finish, they must push on and challenge for trophies as soon as possible.

By clearing out over 20 players last summer and bringing in six, van Gaal successfully trimmed the squad and started the re-building process which will see him restore the balance that has been missing since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club.

Now United are back in Europe and with another heap of money likely to be spent on completing the re-build this summer they must challenge in all four competitions next season.

Ander Herrera, who has been in fantastic form since moving to the club from Athletic Bilbao last summer, believes that United are ready to compete for silverware.

He told the club’s official website, “We are happy because we are in the top four and that was the first aim of this season. But we are Manchester United and next season we have to fight for all trophies. We are representing the biggest club in England and we fight for everything.”

The confidence was oozing from the midfielder, who obviously believes that there is something special on the horizon for United next season.

Herrera was quick to complement the club and their fans who have shown tremendous faith in his abilities and have supported him constantly to help him settle into his new surroundings in his debut season. He believes that Old Trafford is the perfect place for him to realise his world-class potential.

He continued, “I’m a young player, so I want to keep improving, to keep playing for Manchester United. I feel lucky. I am at the right club, in the right city, in the right country. We have the best stadium and the best supporters in the Premier League – we have to play for them.”
