Villa suffered a humiliating defeat against Southampton last weekend, but Sherwood says he’s got no issues with the character running through his squad, which he’s moved quickly to express.
“I've got no problem with the character of this bunch. We've done brilliantly over the last couple of months. We've been fantastic,” he said.
“Over a period I've been at this football club these boys have been magnificent. They've shown character, ability and drive.”
The defeat was the worst suffered by the club since Sherwood came in as manager, but the club have achieved their ultimate goal of staying up.
Sherwood can now make a few changes ahead of the final game against Burnley, to give some key players a rest ahead of the FA Cup final against Arsenal.
Villa’s squad have been magnificent in recent weeks in terms of the amount of effort and discipline they have put into their performances and it just told against a very good side at St Mary’s.
Sherwood is a manager who will always stress the positives and will always focus on the way forward, rather than looking back and that will be no different this coming weekend.
Hopefully the team can play with even more freedom than has been the case, as they fought to stay up, and the boss will be looking for players in all key positions to give him selection problems ahead of the trip to Wembley.
