Report: Mitchell Dijks wants Celtic transfer because of Virgil van Dijk

Willem II left back Mitchell Dijks reportedly wants to join Celtic this summer.

According to The Sun, Willem II defender Mitchell Dijks wants to join Celtic - because of the success of his compatriot Virgil van Dijk.

Dijks, 22, joined Ajax as a teenager but failed to make the grade in Amsterdam, eventually going out on loan to Heerenveen last season before joining Willem II permanently almost a year ago.

The left back has now impressed this season, and speculation is surrounding his future ahead of the summer transfer window; AD in the Netherlands report that both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord want to sign Dijks, whilst The Sun have long reported that Celtic are eyeing a move this summer.

It seemed that the race for Dijks would be intense this summer, but The Sun believe that Dijks now wants to move to Scotland and join Celtic - because of a current Bhoys star.

According to The Sun, Dijks wants to sign for Celtic having seen his compatriot Virgil van Dijk enjoy a sensational spell in Glasgow since making the move from the Netherlands in 2013.

Van Dijk's success now seemingly has Dijks dreaming of the same, whilst Celtic's qualification to the Champions League preliminary rounds could also be a draw for the left back.

With little cover behind Emilio Izaguirre at left back, manager Ronny Deila is unsurprisingly being linked with a host of left-sided defenders - and a £900,000 deal to sign Dijks could now be drawing closer after The Sun's report about his admiration for van Dijk.
