Tottenham Hotspur winger Lamela has reportedly been lined up by Atleti as a potential replacement for Antonie Griezmann, who they fear will leave to join Chelsea this summer.
Griezmann has been in scintillating form this season and Diego Simeone's side realise they will face a fight to keep him.
As a result a contingency plan is apparently already being made and the report claims they see Lamela as the ideal replacement for the French international.
Lamela has struggled over his first two years at Tottenham, but he has proven his class in Serie A earlier in his career and Atletico seem to believe he still has a bright future.
They are, therefore, said to be willing to pay a sizeable fee for Spurs and that may tempt the London side into parting ways with the 22-year-old.
Lamela looks like a bad fit at Spurs and the chance to cash in on the skilful wide-man is likely to be one which they will take, should the opportunity arise.
